Matthew 2
Just read the scripture reference....it explains it all! ;)
My Word: Contrary to some accounts and tradition we do not know where the wise men came from, who they were or how many there were. We don't know what "star" (be sure to read down to the highlighted references) led them to the Christ child but we do know the star was seen by many all over the world.
We also don't know how old Jesus was at the time of the wise men's visit but since Herod had all children 2 and younger killed I am assuming he is no longer an infant. Also the visit was to a "young child" perhaps another clue.
Herod was a horrible man and rightfully despised and feared. Any hint of another's coming to power and he would quash the rebellion! Remember that John the Baptist and his parents were effected by Herod's edict. I remember this scripture reference (Matthew 2:18) because my Grandfather was born in Ramah, NM so that event combined with the horror of the slaughter of children makes this reference stick in my mind.
Assignment: Just as the people were given signs of the birth of Christ we are given signs of His return. Are you watching for the signs of the Second Coming of the Messiah? Where would you find a list of the signs? Were people converted to Christ because of the signs or something else? What would be a better gift (you may want to be comforted :HINT!) to have than the knowledge of the signs? What must you do to receive this Gift? Try here, #4!
im all caught up again hopefull know that all the holidays are over i can focus a little more!
